I did not get the position. I am not too sad because it was really far away and it would take me 3-4 hours to commute everyday. Life goes on and I keep on applying. Nothing really new and interesting happened. The winter is cold and wet here. Sunlight is shorter during a day but the days remain too long.

Getting Older

As I am getting older, like everyone I am having little problems especially with my eyes. It is hard for me to focus and read tiny letters on my high resolution laptop screen. I finally figured out a way to keep the fonts bigger permantly for Windows and to prevent Firefox to automaticly resize:

Windows font

Firefox Java

It was painful to keep on reading little letters on my screen.

Addiction to WoW

World of Warcraft is really addictive. I am trying to restrict myself to play it. I will only turn it on after 8 pm and play until 11 pm maximum. It took all my time but worse of all it has become repetitive.

I am still on the learning curve for stock investments. My position is kind of locked right now because of Citigroup future. The pertubations due to the banking crisis are still very strong.

More reading to do.

One of my investment went all the way up and all the way down like a roller coaster. Annoying that I did not want to give it up. So now I am stuck with it a bit longer. I have received a call for a teaching position but I declined again because only 8 hours were require. At least my french CV has been updated. Now I need to get back to my english one…The thing is I am not sure I want o move again. I have the impression that it is esier to find a job elswhere but in France. I just do not want to be looking for a job when I am 40.

The weather is getting worse. It is colder in the morning and in teh evenning even though the sky remains blue most of the time.

Lessons Learned!

1. Stay away from Biothech companies… their stocks are really volatile, meaning very risky. There are a lot of day-traders playing on their values. GERN is one of them.

2. Prefer tech companies when the economy is recovering. Their values go constantly up (Cisco, INFI, etc…). Especially when their value was at the bottom last year (2008-2009).

3. When you get the chance pull out with whatever gain you may make. The biotech company’s stock, YMI, went all the way up and all the way down. I was glad I pulled out after the peak value.

4. DIVERSITY is key. Do not invest in one single stock no matter how good it seems.

I now invest in American banks, the big mammoths that survived. I am quite sure two of them will bring me huge profits.

I’ve had the job offer but I declined it today. It was only for 13 hours. What is great with teaching is a lot of free time and vacations that are paid in France but 13 hours will not make it worth my time….keep on looking! I sold all my stocks and gathered my gains for new investments. Time to read a bit more.

Nimotuzumab

What a strange name for a drug! Anyways this little baby has brought me my very first 18.29% gain in my investment. I also could predict the highest peak before the market fever came down. Indeed it was announced overnight that nimotuzumab has been approved for marketing in Mexico. This stock, YMI, annoyed me very much the last two weeks. It went up and down in a very random way as if people started to lose faith in the development of the drug.

So after 20 days playing with stock options, I have made so far $250 gain on four stock options. I only invested about $3600. The last one isn’t moving much and I am waiting for an opportunity to sell just to recover the transaction fees.

I have an interview for a teaching position in a private school today. 18 hours of teaching per week… why not? More time to do my part time investment job and a regular income for incoming pittfalls when my predictions go wrong. I am sure I will have these….
