“There is pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society where none intrudes,
By the deep sea and the music in its roar;
I love not man the less, but Nature more.” By Lord Byron

Mt Cootha III bis
There is nothing worse for an artist than the judgment of being false or not being true to his or her natural talent. I can indeed record my images as RAW and then use a program to optimize the light spectrum. It is not really “cheating” as if u were to change things using Adobe photoshop. All you really do is optimize the light spectrum in which u want your images to be seen. BUT in order to be truthful to myself and not to allow my dear sister to use the word “color booster” I am posting the original pictures out of the nikon itself. They are just as beautiful, maybe some could be better but they are my own work! and I just love them:

I went out last night with friends from the hiking group to the first social event. The restaurant was really nice, completely packed. The entire street was full of life and nice little restaurants. I never ventured too far away from Toowong or Indooroopilly …sometimes in Auchenflower near the city. I would warmly recommend Oxford Street to anyone living in Brisbane. The easiest way to go there is to take the Citycat and stop at Bulimba.

The Perpetual Struggle!
10 years ago, after passing the french national selection math/phys/chem exam, I thought back then that my life will soon be stable and take a normal course. 10 years after I find myself still struggling to find my place in the real world. When will this perpetual struggle end? I kept on telling myself as an excuse that this must be the normal course of my life but I have friends and it seems that their life has taken a more stable course. I mean my life isn’t bad, I have traveled around the world, I have a decent life standard, I could save a bit of money aside for a potential investment and I do not have any debt. But it seems very unstable to me because I am still looking for a permanent position.
Anyways such is my life! Nils will be back in 3 days. The apartment has become quite boring with me alone in there. Thanks to the holidays and the cruise, time flew very quickly and I did not have time to get depressed. But as normal life resumed, my depressive mood came back. DAMN IT!

Some nice natural photos during my vacation

I officially and publicly announced my departure date: March 31 2008. I was very happy today when I stopped in the middle of the fast lane for my last swim lap. As the drops coming from the morning rain felt on my face, I enjoyed few seconds of peace and joy: I was indeed relieved!

Return to Springbrook!

Such a pleasure to swim in a fresh river in a tropical forest. I do not know any better things to do right there. My poor fellow hikers are too picky about how they look to be natural.

My Golden Cage!
After March 31 2008, my life will be taking a new direction. I will leave my pseudo comfort zone, my “golden cage”, for an unknown new path. Every time my life has changed dramatically, it’s always been for a better way of life. I am hoping it will continue. I came to like Brisbane as a city. It is quite funny the contrast between Brisbane and Manhattan. Moving from a megapole like New York to a small city like Brisbane was a shock. My first thought then was that Brisbane was too “small”. My personal list of cities in order of preference remains:
Lyon-San Francisco-Chicago-New York-Brisbane-Sydney

Strange night!
I went to bed at 7:30 pm, woke up around 11:50 pm and could not resume my beauty sleep until 1 am. I am tired! I had a bit of a hang-over because I finished the sparkling wine bottle all by myself. I believe it disrupted my sleep. Note-to-self: do not get DRUNK at any cost ( 2 glasses of wine or 2 bottles of beer before bed time… no more!). The swim was okay. 4 slow ass jumped into the fast lane. Usually they do not bother me much if there were only 2 slow people but here it was a bit dumb since there was a full lane free. I just moved to lane 9 for a while but I had to move back because of teaching lessons. Also I had to get over the hang-over during the first 3 kms. Quite painful!
I talked a bit to Diane, my neighbor yesterday. She is really nice and she is taking a macro-economics course during the summer. Hopefully I can do the same when I go back to France. I am really tired of science! I kept on forgetting her name. It does come back though. I am really bad with names! I rented “Next” and “Romulus, my father!” Maybe I was too tired but neither one seemed good. I scrolled quickly through them.
