Despair!

When will this rain stop? I am quite certain the answer is NEVER but I have hope! Boredom invaded my spirit, this is one of these transition time again in my life.

The people who asked to come to check the place did not come, I understand them since it was raining. I had someone ringing at the door. It was a lovely girl who wanted me to help people who were deaf but  I was too defensive, I should have invited her to have a cup of tea or coffee. I told her I am leaving soon Ireland and I cannot help  her. She was so lovely that she made me feel bad. o well .. life is hard!

Someone directly asked me about my finis mp3 player. I was glad to show the dude how it works!

Last thought of the day: I should have asked the girl if she wanted a cup of tea. It did rain a lot and to do what she did, she must have a shit load of good will. What a shame I was too scared to offer.

Strong Rain!

All weekend long starting Friday evening making it impossible for me to do anything. I stayed home all weekend long and watched movies and documentaries. Noting remarkable to mention about. Only two answers to the apartment ad…it looks like it is harder to find people to take over.

Good swim!

I had a very nice one this morning, the hip rotation and a better coordination between arms and body allowed me to improve greatly my technique and my speed. I am now one of the fastest in the pool …not counting the squads! My friend, Coura, told me some good news. She had a job offer as a post-doc at ND and her french naturalization  seems to advance a little bit. I posted my room on internet. I am hoping for a smooth transition so that I can recover my security deposit and leave quietly Ireland. We had already 3 people answering the ad. I had a hard time sleeping lately, maybe due to the coming move.

September 15

My plane ticket to Manchester was booked today for Monday, September the 15th. First time in England for me and it will be for a whole year most likely. Let’s keep fingers crossed. It will be a very expensive trip. I am hoping I will find quickly a part-time job to make things easier when I am done with this adventure.

I checked, just by curiosity, the fees for skilled worker visa application to Canada and it is about $550. I am very tempted to apply for it since I have all the points required to go and live there. It is the second largest country with only 33 millions people. Lots of virgin space to explore and would be wonderful for my camera. It is a bit cold there though! I will see if they have a 50 m swimming pool anywhere there :).

I just do not see my life back in France. My left eye has fully recovered, all I needed was to stop the tear solutions and let it recover by itself.

Superannuation

I applied online today to retrieve my Australian retirement funds. That was much easier and faster than I thought it would be. The paperwork would take ages but the online application is lightning efficient! I thought I could preserve these funds until I can  buy my own apartment but plans have changed because of Manchester. *sigh*

I have received wedding photos from an old friend from my engineering school in Lyon. So many good memories from this old time came back. They are all smiling and posing… my only wish for them is that they will keep this smile for the rest of their life!

Great swim this morning, I almost had half of the pool all by myself. School team squads are gone due to summer vacation! GREAT! Tomorrow is a bank holiday in Ireland so no swim for me.

My irritated right eye has taken off the pressure on the left one that was always irritated and to which I applied some tear solutions regularly. These tear solutions have induced extreme sensitivity to my left eye. After stopping for two days these solutions, my left AND right eyes became normal again. Everything is all good now.

I have booked a room at Manchester. Now I just have to wait and leave Mid September. The new washing machine is very nice and everyone in the house is happy to test it. I had to install it…a pain in the ass! I did the same thing for the new fridge. Since I came here, we had two new machines, our internet was upgraded to 20 Mbs with no quota and anaog TV was upgraded to digital TV. Everywhere, I go I try to optimize. People are too lazy to do these things. Since I was born I was always excited about these stupid things that make life much nicer 🙂

Hurt like hell!

I was swimming nicely and all of a sudden my right eye got irritated. The pain slowly increased and I had to stop. I was doing pretty good. I don’t know what they put in that water but now my right eye is all red. I did very well though. A little hip correction and the regular sound coming from the Tech Toc helped me coordinating my body and arms rotation. For the same effort, I only need to extend longer and use all the energy given by the arm moves without breaking it. I hope the pain in the eye will go away. I bought new gogles for tomorrow.

Hot day

It’s getting very hot nowadays. Luckily we have regular rain to cool things down. I decided to kill the washing machine and asked the owner to buy a new one. I noticed it makes things easier just to kill dying devices and ask people to replace them than explaining to them what is going wrong and that they should replace it. My flatmates were happy and we are getting a new washing machine on Thursday.

The team squads at the pool are on vacation so all regular swimmers have the whole pool to share! GREAT. I am using a Tech toc to improve my hip rotation and it does hurt a bit the first few days. Let’s hope it is useful.

I will probably get a student room with an ensuite and probably a part time job. The whole thing is pretty costly and will eat up half of my savings 🙁

It is so rare that it is worth mentioning about it when it is here, a full day of sunshine… all day long! I have received the formal letter from Manchester Law school and I replied right away to confirm. It seems that I can do right away the LLM which is the master degree. It seems also that, in the UK, Masters are only one year long and Phd 3 years. Everything is shorter than other systems which is good. I will see because it is only 3 months more than the degree I wanted to do. All depends whether I can find a job within this period of time.

Both of my flatmates know about my departure now and they all seem okay with it. They were already warned when I joined them here. We shall have a smooth transition I am hoping.

The fee for the school is more than I expected because they do not consider me as an EU student since I was in Australia the last 3 years. They only count as EU/home students people who physically reside in Europe. O well I cannot stop now: one foot in front of the other…as usual!
