The Good Things!

Since I arrived, I have been extremely stressed and that has visible consequences on my health: a second herpes and two cold consecutively. I  am still recovering from the second one. I kept on coughing. There are good things that happened to me though. I was worried about the tuition fee that turned out in the end to my favor. It is a huge saving. It also allowed me to apply for the student residence here because of my “international student status”. So I was comfortably assigned a room. I have 5 quiet and clean flatmates and we get along. I like Amy very much because she has been a good friend. We did many things together. My weekends are quite busy with the UNI Hiking club, the team leaders do not like me much because I was careless about their rigid rules but also because of my eccentric look, long hair, transition glass and a fancy camera. But people I went hiking with liked me. I usually had a good time hiking with them. The other day I paid 10.35 GBP and the cashier gave me back 10.10 GBP. I smiled and took the extra cash and went away. I also could exchange a book for a newer edition and I only had to pay the difference yesterday.

As time pass by, I am getting used to Manchester, this big jungle! Things are nicer also at the pool. All the fast swimmers are now organised and we swim together whenever we can.

I kind of like Manchester now.

A Good Laugh!

I was quietly having my dinner in the common kitchen room when Rafiq came in. We started chatting and he mentioned about the noises made by his neighbor next door: the moaning and the banging she made with her newly found BF. I laughed hard and it felt so good to laugh that much. I knew immediately when I met all my 5 flatmates who might be the troubled one. I was right on concerning Cat.

She already gave me troubles because she kept on throwing her trash in the common kitchen bin. I had to put up a sign and asked everyone explicitly not to throw their personnal trash in there! Now she is making noises and she annoyed Rafiq.  I am so glad my room is not next to hers! Amy is having her BF next week from the 22nd of October for 9 days. I hope Amy and her BF won’t be noisy!

After a challenging hike on Sunday, my body is again broken. I should not underestimate the dudes and the chick who were in Hike 1. I hope they are enduring the same pain. I went shopping with Amy, my flatmate next door. She is kind and looks all fancy and sexy. She has a great touch with old men because of her natural forms.  Anyways, I met two old bastards, one around 40 and the other around 55 complimenting me and telling me how lucky I was to be with her!!! We both laughed. Amy is strange. She kept on attracting old men.

Today I had a great swim with very fast swimmers and I matched their speed! Weee!

I met my other flatmate’s one night-stand also. It was strange to see her with a new man after seeing her boyfriend last week. He came for her birthday. How kind of her :)!

23 kms: 2 peaks up to 1130 m with a marathon runner, a cyclist, a swimmer/basketball player and other unknown athletes with unlimited stamina! Well I was quite humble during the hike. I was at the front of the hike with the cyclist who did not say a word but seemed to be doing fine all the way. Now my ass hurts! Some muscles seemed to be used more than they ought to be during the day.

Ribblehead hike

My hair s really strange, it gets all curly and brownish. I have not touched them for almost 9 months now. Leaving to themselves, they tend to behave in a strange way. I am determined to pursue the experiment and leave them untouched for 3 years!

My blog is now one year old! It has changed so much since it first started. I never thought I would hold that long and I kept it updated quite regularly. It also has become easier for people to follow whenever they feel like my whereabouts. It is stored on Eno’s Slackware box somewhere in Florida. Its stability has defied all my expectations. An exact copy exists locally on my laptop and it will take the relay if Eno’s box dies accidentally. I am using Flickr to store and share my photos. It is faster this way and Flickr’s format is very nice. I did not know it allows any format size to be uploaded. I paid 30 us dollars for a Flick pro account. I also use Rapidshare to upload and share bigger files.

It’s also been 28 weeks that I am back to Europe: Dublin + Manchester. Time flies so quickly, almost 7 months, my face has completely changed because of the long hair style! I am also glad I did not cut them. I wanted to leave them long for 3 years. As usual, I try as much as I can to stick to my words.

Finally I have changed alot mentally. The jump from the tree in Australia has left an indelible mark. It has a deep and strong influence in all of my current and future choices. I was never the same person since that day for the best or the worse!

It looks like that people at the pool started to realize  I am a bit faster than them. I was very surprised yesterday to find my lane almost empty and the lane next to me full of medium swimmers. Today almost only fast swimmers were in my lane, and slower ones were kindly letting me pass them. It was nice to swim the last two days. Maybe there is a consensus among swimmers now that they saw what I could do. We shall see if it is becoming a real trend. SoI have 2 swim buddies who are a bit faster than me but not too much.

TODO List

I managed to finish my TODO list of the week:

1. ask my advisor about the possibility to convert my PgDip to LLM (Master) in IP

2. Look for a dentist to do dental cleanings (scale + polish)

3. Update my CV and answer an offer sent within the school

I was happy about the job offer, it gave some confidence about the choice I made concerning the IP. I will talk to the advisor tomorrow. I was afraid of sending the email because of my current home/UK status, I did not want them to look too closely into my files and discover I could be a international student.

I also, by precaution, withdrew 300 GBP in cash. Just in case, my bank goes bankrupt. I still have cash aside while waiting for a claim to the government to get through. I am not afraid of loosing money, it would just take some times to recover money if your bank goes bankrupt.

Borrowdale

I went hiking on Sunday. It was nice but Borrowdale is very much like Keswick since they both are in the Lake District area. So a feeling of “Deja vu”: Borrowdale.

It took again 12 hours. I am not sure I want to spend that much time hiking and taking pictures. I am sure I can take more pretty pictures by myself if I go there by train. Some spots around  the lake are just wonderful and we did not spend time there. We went to the hills to hike.

I had an exam yesterday and it was not too bad. I fully answered the case part and I think I did very good understanding the case and analyzing it. The other part about general knowledge was not good but I can easily fix that in the future. Law is not hard. It is about understanding the rules and applying them to your specific case. A good lawyer will try to interpret the words from the past and applying them to his case for the better. I do not know if I like law yet, it seems rather boring at first but the more you learn about law, the more you know and maybe with time I can be a good patent attorney. I think it is a good, stable job for the future…We shall see!

I have another Hike tomorrow. The weather seems correct.
